FoodForward SA would like to thank Shoprite for its generosity and ongoing support.
The partnership between FoodForward SA and Shoprite started in 2015, and together much has already been accomplished. The retailer’s valuable support of FoodForward SA’s Food Rescue and Virtual Foodbanking programmes has allowed FoodForward SA to significantly increase their reach. As a show of support Shoprite, through the Virtual FoodBanking Model, has made FoodForward SA the exclusive recipient of all surplus food at its National Distribution Centres and retail stores.
During 2016 Shoprite donated a substantial 209, 000KG’s of food and household products, as well as generously allocating a monthly procurement budget to FoodForward SA. This procurement budget helps FoodForward SA purchase basic food groceries such as rice, maize and samp, which ensure that our beneficiary organisations receive enough staples each month.
Not only is Shoprite a very generous food donor, the retail store went above and beyond by selecting FoodForward SA as the beneficiary of its #ActForChange programme for the third time in December 2016. This campaign allows shoppers to add R5 or more to their grocery bill in support of FoodForward SA. Shoprite’s generous shoppers made a huge impact by donating enough to facilitate the provision of 298, 000 meals to hungry people in South Africa.
During March 2017, Shoprite will be sponsoring 20 FoodForward SA beneficiary organisations to attend a workshop on effective fundraising and marketing.
FoodForward SA is grateful to Shoprite for the ongoing support of our work to address hunger in South Africa and we are excited to continue the partnership with Shoprite on a number of events and campaigns during 2017.
