Thank you Old Mutual!

In support of FoodBank SA and the work that we do to provide hungry South Africans with adequate, good quality and nutritious food, Old Mutual generously donated R500 000 to our organisation. The money will be used to fully sponsor 11 beneficiary organisations and the people that they serve. Here are some of the organisations that will benefit from this donation.
The Salvation Army Carehaven
The Salvation Army Carehaven based in Gatesville, Cape Town opened its doors in 1990 to provide residential shelter and refuge to abused women and their children. The organisation currently cares for 50 women and children and provides a number of services including counselling, support groups and access to legal advice in order to give the women an opportunity to come to terms with their abuse. They also offer practical skills workshops such as money management for the women to learn new skills that will empower them to cope as self-reliant members of society. The organisation has helped over 6000 women, since opening its doors.
Ark of Love
Ark of Love Old Age Home, located in Vosloorus, Gauteng provides geriatric care; in-home services; homemaker services; transport facilities; recreational activities; meal programs and other services geared towards senior citizens. The organisation was founded in 2003 after Goodwill and his wife Thobeka noticed that the elderly members of their church were hungry. To address this need they set up a soup kitchen to provide two meals a week to the elderly but soon realised that the need was for more than just warm, nutritious meals and that their beneficiaries needed a safe and caring place to live. With the support of the community the Ark of Love was established and now over 40 elderly members of the community rely on them for care and three meals a day.
Grace Help Centre
The Grace Help Centre based in Mooinooi, North West was established in 2003 to provide a place of safety to abused women and their children as well as orphaned or sexually abused children. The organisation offers counselling to their beneficiaries who have experienced abuse, human trafficking, domestic violence, unwanted pregnancies as well as post abortion syndrome and trauma. Grace Help Centre is currently accommodating 105 women and children, providing food, medical care and education to the children they house as well as toiletries, clothing, transport, counselling, food, shelter, payment for schooling free of charge to the women in their care.
Thank you Old Mutual for joining us in the fight against hunger.
