On 21 May 2021, proud Western Cape Smollan staff members handed over an incredible 300 kg of food to our team in Cape Town as well as the first proceeds from a raffle they are conducting. The food which includes a variety of staple items, dry grains, canned goods and condiments was collected through a food drive they hosted among their staff to support our food relief efforts.
Smollan began as a family business and has grown into a global company that aims to transform business through purpose. Their Path to Purpose staff initiative is based on five pillars, namely, community, planet, people, partnerships and alliances. It is through these pillars, and the fact that both FoodForward SA and Smollan have partnerships within the same retail ecosystem and that both parties are committed to reducing waste, that the two organisations found synergy and are working towards developing a strategic partnership.
In August 2020 Smollan provided FoodForward SA with a generous grant to provide over half a million meals. Since then, they have committed to conducting a year-long campaign among their staff, with FFSA as the beneficiary.
“If nothing else, the past 18 months has highlighted the fragile relationship we have with our planet and with one other. It has never been clearer that businesses need to look after their people, be socially conscious and mindful of the planet. When everyone has access to opportunities, we become stronger as a society and better as a company. We are incredibly proud to have partnered with FoodForward SA and the remarkable impact they have had on the lives of nearly 500 000 people daily across South Africa,” says Michael Smollan, Chief Growth and Innovation Office.
Thank you, Smollan, for your partnership!
