FoodForward SA is proud to have been selected as a beneficiary of Oceana Group’s Covid-19 relief efforts. In November 2021, we received a generous donation of R724,953, which has enabled us to distribute food equivalent to 852,886 meals to vulnerable beneficiaries.
Oceana Group and their people responded as a collective to the devastation wreaked by the Covid-19 pandemic. They raised an incredible R3 million from fee – and salary sacrifices made by their board and executive team.
In addition to their generous financial contribution, we are delighted that our partnership, to address food insecurity in vulnerable communities, is growing. In April, Oceana Group donated over 2,400 cans of their iconic Lucky Star brand to FoodForward SA, which will benefit our beneficiary organisations (BOs) in the Eastern Cape. Of our network of 1,000 BOs located across the country, 128 BOs are in the Eastern Cape, including 35 BOs which form part of our Mobile Rural Depot (MRD) programme. Through these BOs, we are currently reaching 47,152 vulnerable Eastern Cape beneficiaries daily.
Oceana’s Corporate & Regulatory Affairs Executive Zodwa Velleman says, “At Oceana, we base our actions on the philosophy that those of us who live above the breadline have a responsibility to those who live below it. The donation to FoodForward SA is part of Oceana’s efforts to counter the growing threat of hunger brought on by the deep socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We trust that this will bring some measure of hunger relief to the most vulnerable in our country at this most challenging of times. We believe that it is only through collaboration that we will be able to overcome this crisis and positively impact lives.”
