MassMart and the Walmart Foundation commit US$200,000 to aid our recovery efforts in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Despite Massmart suffering the loss of multiple stores to arson during the rampage, Walmart, the Walmart Foundation and Massmart quickly came on board and committed US$200,000 to FoodForward SA’s recovery efforts in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The strategic partnership between FoodForward SA and Massmart commenced in April 2020, when Massmart pledged to supply FoodForward SA with a donation of 460 tons of procured quality food over three months as part of their COVID-19 food security support. This generous donation was made possible through Walmart International which matched a contribution from the Massmart Board and Executive Committee. This support during hard lockdown in 2020 was invaluable, as it enabled FoodForward SA to scale up almost immediately and provide our beneficiaries with critical food provisions during a period of heightened food insecurity caused by the lockdown.

The recent grant of US200,000 builds on this partnership and has helped to accelerate our recovery efforts in Kwa-Zulu Natal to provide vulnerable beneficiaries with access to nutritious food during the aftermath of the riots and beyond. In addition to this support, Massmart has also generously donated 45 tons of rice, a key staple item that adds tremendous value to the food parcels we provide vulnerable households.

Thank you, Massmart, for your incredible partnership!
