Lancaster Foundation Keeps us Moving

The Lancaster Foundation is a Non-Profit Company founded in 2017 with the core objectives of carrying out public benefit activities, which are focused on poverty relief, community development for poor and needy persons and anti-poverty initiatives. They work in partnership on projects run by South African NGOs and individual beneficiaries to create equality in a post-apartheid society.  Through a recommendation from one of FoodForward SA’s donors, the Trevor Noah Foundation, the Lancaster Foundation approached FFSA shortly after the Covid-19 hard lockdown was announced.

Their funding in May 2020 was directed towards the purchase of an insulated body trailer with tail lift for a new 14-ton truck, to service beneficiary organisations in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. This highly specialised piece of equipment makes it possible to transport multiple pallets of food for our beneficiary organisations.

In August 2021 the Lancaster Foundation granted us funding to purchase a new 8-ton, refrigerated truck. The additional infrastructural capacity is a critical enabler of the recovery and redistribution of quality surplus food for our nearly 94,000 vulnerable beneficiaries across Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Parusha Naidoo, Director at the Lancaster Foundation, reflects on why they continue to support FoodForward SA: “We believe that FFSA is a very well run organisation who has far reaching impact around the country. In a short space of time FFSA has expanded and they continue to grow their impact. It is good to be a part of the solution to ending hunger in SA. We will continue supporting FFSA because we love that FFSA is solving two problems. One, that a third of food produced, destined for landfill, is rescued, and secondly, redistributed, thereby ensuring that thousands of people don’t go to bed hungry. The problem of world hunger is massive and it’s great doing our part locally to help people that are struggling to get their daily nourishment.”
