Thanks to the support of Century City Conference Centre and their technical team, our very first virtual event took place on Thursday, 18 March. Nearly 200 people joined FoodForward SA’s inaugural stakeholder webinar. The annual event, usually hosted at a venue, gives us the opportunity to inform our stakeholders of past achievements, challenges and future developments.
Titled Covid-19: One year later. Actions taken and Lessons Learned, the first session saw Andy Du Plessis, our MD, provide an interesting overview of the challenges hard lockdown suddenly presented us. He shared how we scaled our operations in the midst of hard lockdown and how none of our impact across nine provinces would have been possible without the support of our donors.
Namhla Skweyiya-Gatya, one of FFSA’s board members, chaired the first session. The panelists included some of our key partners. Zinzi Mgolodela (Woolworths), Andre Nel (Pick n Pay), Alex Haw (Massmart), Mary-Jane Morifi (Tiger Brands) and Tatjana von Bormann (WWF-SA), who reflected on their partnerships with FFSA.
Marcus Coetzee chaired the second session, during which the results of the Social Return on Investment study that Impact Amplifier conducted on our foodbanking model, were presented. Tanner Methvin, one of the partners at Impact Amplifier, highlighted the methodology, sample and key findings of the study. The session’s panelists included Warick Burke (Old Mutual), and representatives from our BO network, including Trish Lockwood (Rays of Hope), Gerhard Fourie (Witkoppen Clinic) and Marshall Rinquest (Greyton Transition Town).
