We are very proud to report that our inaugural SETA accredited Supply Chain Youth Internship Programme that concluded on 31 October 2019 with 5 youth, have been absorbed at FoodForward SA’s national head office in Cape Town.
The interns gained valuable practical experience at our Cape Town warehouse, as well as solid academic training during the 6-month internship, which has prepared them very well for employment in the world of work. The groups work included a comprehensive curriculum that covered inventory management, health and safety, food safety, logistics, as well as mentoring by supply-chain professionals.
We touched based with our newest employees to gather their thoughts on being integrated into a work environment.
What department are you assigned to and what are your duties?
I have been assigned to the Operations department. My duties include assisting with helpdesk logistics requests, monitoring our vehicles daily on CTRACK and providing support to our various branches nationally with general administrative functions.
Initially, I was assigned to the Beneficiary Organisation Management (BO) department and my duties included assisting the BO-Coordinators, and monitoring and communicating with the BOs in our network. I am now working in the Cape Town warehouse, assisting the team with stock management, sorting, packing and distribution of food.
I have been assigned to the ICT department. My duties include monitoring BO operations related to FoodShare, our digital platform that allows our BOs to collect food from retail stores.
I work in the Fund Development department. My duties include communication with schools, encouraging them to join our volunteer programme, and assisting the Fund Development team with events and campaigns.
All our interns have adjusted well to the formal work environment, and are adding great value to the work we do.
