CHEP Helps FoodForward SA Deliver Optimal Foodbanking Operations

Reliable, passionate and committed partners play an important role in helping FoodForward SA deliver optimal foodbanking services to over 1,000 beneficiary organisations across South Africa.

Supply chain solutions company, CHEP, believes in doing more than just moving products. They create sustainable value by serving the needs of people and by protecting food as it moves from farms and fields to the family dinner table. They protect the environment by operating efficiently and sustainably.

The CHEP-FoodForward SA partnership was established in 2015 and continues through a shared belief in building better communities. As a key supply chain partner to FFSA, CHEP enables us to implement smooth and efficient food-banking operations across our five warehouses.

We use CHEP equipment (mainly wooden pallets) in our Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Johannesburg and Rustenburg warehouses for safely sorting, storing and transporting food. Their equipment is essential in facilitating our monthly inter-branch transfers to Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State and the Northern Cape and undertaking our monthly trips to our Mobile Rural Depots (MRDs).

CHEP has also been an important sponsor of our annual Mandela Day Food Drive, a partnership between Pick n Pay and FoodForward SA. For this flagship event, CHEP sponsors securetainers, bins, lugs and pallets, to facilitate the distribution of the donated food to the various FFSA warehouses. As part of the Mandela Day Packing Event (which we, unfortunately, could not host in 2020), several CHEP staff volunteer help sort and pack donated food.

In 2020, CHEP made a generous donation towards FoodForward SA’s COVID-19 food security appeal and in 2021 they have undertaken to further strengthen the relationship with FoodForward SA through offering training at FFSA’s warehouses on solutions-based thinking and how to better control and manage CHEP equipment.

Thank you, CHEP. Your partnership helps us move closer to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals!
