Since launching the Mother and Child Nutrition Programme in the Witzenberg municipality in November last year, we have received positive feedback that reflects the impact of this life-changing initiative. The programme is a crucial part of our ongoing efforts to combat malnutrition and stunting, which continue to affect millions of children in South Africa.
Over 1.5 million children in the country are grappling with the devastating effects of malnutrition, leading to stunting, developmental delays, and lifelong health challenges. Last year, we expanded the programme into the Witzenberg and Breede Valley Municipalities in the Western Cape in partnership with the Grow Great Campaign and the Department of Health. This expansion is already making a significant difference.

Since November, 100 mothers and their children have been receiving food boxes, packed with essential, high-protein foods aimed at supporting the growth and development of malnourished children. The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, and we continue to see progress.
Sharing the progress the programme is making, Lulamile Wawini, head nurse at Prince Alfred Hamlet Clinic, says: “It’s amazing to see how quickly some of these children have grown or gained weight.”
“The programme is making a significant impact. Many children who had previously shown no improvement—despite being on a nutritional programme for over six months—started gaining weight after receiving FoodForward support.
“With FoodForward’s intervention, these children have now shown measurable improvements.”
“We must ensure that this programme continues to thrive.”

We are proud to be part of this effort, knowing that with continued support, we can help families build a healthier future.
