Celebrating the Women Who Power Our Mission

In celebration of Women’s Month, we want to acknowledge the incredible women who are the backbone of our organisation.

These women play a crucial role in ensuring that nearly one million food-insecure South Africans receive warm, nutritious meals daily.

If you’ve visited any of our branches nationwide—as a beneficiary organisation (BO), a food or financial donor, or a volunteer—you’ve likely encountered one of our dynamic women.

Join us as we celebrate their invaluable contributions and the positive impact they make every day.

Celebrating Women This Women’s Month

Lydia Dipuo – Truck Driver

Lydia drives a brand new 8-ton truck that was recently donated by Glencore, our long-term donor in the North West region.

“Since starting as a general worker and becoming a full-time truck driver, my life has changed so much at FoodForward SA,” says Lydia

“Despite the challenges on the road, which include being undermined by male truck drivers and strikes, we make sure the food reaches those in need. Women’s Month is meaningful to me because it celebrates the strength and power of women. We are the pillars of our families, capable of achieving anything.”

Let’s continue to support and acknowledge women like Lydia who embody strength and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Marelize Ponto, Branch Supervisor, Cape Town

“I started at FoodForward SA eight years ago as a receiving and dispatch clerk, and in 2019, I was promoted to warehouse supervisor. Although my job can be challenging, the most rewarding part is knowing that every time the Beneficiary Organisations (BOs) leave our warehouse with their bulk food groceries, many vulnerable people are guaranteed a healthy plate of food and won’t go to bed hungry. Women’s Month is a time to recognise women’s achievements and their crucial role in our society.”

Evelyn Sheila Ngwira, Branch Supervisor – Rustenburg, North West

“I started working at FoodForward SA in September 2017 as an admin clerk, after completing a development plan in March 2021 I was promoted to warehouse supervisor. My journey here has been a period of growth, gaining new skills, knowledge, and different perspectives. I love working here because we make a real difference in people’s lives. I believe in FFSA’s vision and mission, which is to see a South Africa without hunger.

“Oprah Winfrey is my role model because she promotes diversity, equality, education and women’s rights.

“Women’s Month to me is about celebrating the achievements of women, recognising women’s rights and the important role we play in our society.

Mpho Sioga – Branch Manager Limpopo and Mpumalanga Branches

I started as a supply chain intern at FoodForward SA in 2017 and today I’m managing two branches,” Mpho says proudly.
“I love interacting with our Beneficiary Organisations (BOs) and learning about their operations and resilience. “Knowing that my work helps provide a meal to someone every day is incredibly fulfilling.

My mother has always been my role model. From an external perspective, Nigerian actress and film producer Ruth Kadiri also inspires me. Women’s Month is a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women, recognising their impact and continuing to champion their rights and progress.”

Charne Kriel  – Rustenburg Branch Manager

“I have been with FFSA for four years. We face daily challenges in getting food to communities across South Africa, especially rural towns and villages. Working here is both humbling and fulfilling. Each night, I go to bed knowing that my efforts have helped ensure vulnerable people have a meal.

“It’s easy to take something as simple as a meal for granted, but working at FFSA makes you realise the immense need out there and how we’re bridging that gap, one meal at a time.

“My role model is Louise Du Toit, a prominent advocate for gender-based violence. For me, Women’s Month is about celebrating women who, despite numerous obstacles, continue to thrive and grow against all odds.”
