Food Gardens Connect Branches Out: Eight New BOs Added to Growing Project

Since its launch in April, Food Gardens Connect (FGC) has branched out, welcoming eight new beneficiary organisations (BOs) to our growing initiative.

Born out of FoodForward SA’s commitment to community empowerment, FGC focuses on equipping unemployed individuals, particularly young people, with essential skills in sustainable agriculture.

In collaboration with Soil for Life, FGC recently welcomed its newest community projects: Sesona Sibane and Nomonde Educare in Crossroads, Cape Town.

The organisations have merged to facilitate joint training and development, increasing the benefits for all the participants. Training sessions are facilitated by FFSA’s Community Liaison Officer, Likopo Sehlabo and a representative from Soil for Life.

The diverse group of community members— who range from seasoned gardeners, men, women and unemployed youth— eagerly roll up their sleeves, tending to the gardens with their newfound skills.

Faith, one of the participants, shares her gratitude saying: “We are so thankful for this programme. FoodForward SA has uplifted us in ways we couldn’t have imagined. Our gardens were struggling, but now, with their support and encouragement, we’re seeing real progress.”

Program Support and Timeline

The participants will receive continuous training, monitoring, and support until August 2024.

The initiative aims to promote garden productivity by providing continuous training and resources, transforming the gardens into highly productive spaces.

The programme also seeks to empower community members through skill development and active participation. Special emphasis is placed on involving the youth to ensure long-term sustainability and foster a new generation of community leaders in agriculture.

Through your donation, we can continue to empower communities through skill development and engage youth in sustainable practices.
