The ongoing cost-of-living crisis in South Africa, exacerbated by factors such as high unemployment and stagnant economic growth, continues to push millions of our fellow citizens into vulnerability.
In such challenging times, the principle of Ubuntu becomes increasingly important. Mandela Day, a significant event that brings together corporates, institutions, individuals, and families, serves as a powerful reminder of Nelson Mandela’s legacy of selflessness.
This day encourages the nation to volunteer 67 minutes of service, symbolising Madiba’s commitment to giving back.

A collective effort to fight hunger
Since 2017, FoodForward SA has organised the Mandela Day Food Drive and Packing event, which mobilises thousands of volunteers to pack hundreds of tons of non-perishable groceries.
This collective effort bolsters our food distribution efforts to NGOs across the country, providing essential nourishment, especially during the harsh winter months.

Save the date: Mandela Day – 18 July 2024
Last year, we witnessed a turnout of over 5,000 volunteers who enthusiastically participated in our Mandela Day initiatives across our warehouses in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg.
With venues secured in Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Rustenburg, Polokwane, Bloemfontein, and Gqeberha, thousands of volunteers are expected to converge to support the cause.
The presence of ambassadors, celebrities, and influencers will add to the sense of community spirit, fostering an atmosphere of goodwill and camaraderie.
