Mandela Day 2023

Our Mandela Day volunteers helped pack an incredible 300 tons of food! Our hearts are filled with so much gratitude and appreciation. The 18 July was truly a celebration of our collective power to make a positive impact on lives of those less fortunate. Thank you to everyone who made FoodForward SA’s Mandela Day Packing Event 2023 a huge success.

Thank you, Mandela Day sponsors, and partners

We are so grateful to our Mandela Day headline sponsors – without their sponsorship, we would not have been able to undertake such a successful event, held nationally –  Food Lover’s Market, Clover, Premier FMCG, Lactalis, Danone, RFG, Smollan, CHEP, Kellogg’s, OneFarm Share an initiative of HelloChoice and Standard Bank, Massmart, Pick n Pay , Coca Cola Beverages South Africa, Coca Cola Peninsula Beverages, and Heart FM.

Thank you to the following donors, we are grateful for your financial support – Boston Scientific, Ardagh Glass Packaging, Coronation Fund Managers, Nedbank Foundation, Fortress REIT, Quantum Foods, Old Mutual, Ncwaba Logistics, Vodacom and SAB.

We would also like to acknowledge the following service providers – Rezaine Desai Photography, Libra Vision, Phangela Group, Fidelity ADT, Webtickets, City of Cape Town, East Elite Lifting Equipment, Axiara.

A big thank you to former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi for her amazing online encouragement and thank you to our ambassadors Suga and Chef Pete Goffe-Wood for their presence and wonderful support!

Our amazing volunteers – you made your 67 minutes count

We are grateful to the over 5,000 volunteers who attended our Mandela Day packing events at our Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg warehouses. These volunteers helped to pack nearly 300 tons of non-perishable food items – the equivalent of over 2 million meals – that will be distributed to FoodForward SA’s network of 2,750 beneficiary organisations that will feed over 900,000 vulnerable women and children, the elderly and frail, those suffering with disabilities and chronic diseases, at-risk youth, the homeless and indigent.

Continue to make every day a Mandela Day

We would like to invite you to continue to walk this journey with us and make every day a Mandela Day that symbolises hope and change. Together, we can tackle the scourge of food insecurity in South Africa.
