World Hunger Month Raises R1,7 million in Food Lovers Market Stores

Food Lover’s Market, together with their suppliers, has managed to raise a record 2,515,203 meals during the May Hunger Month campaign. On Tuesday, 14 June 2022, Andrew Millson, (Food Lover’s Market Head of HR and Sustainability), and Roelf Pienaar, (Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing Managing Director), handed the cheque to FoodForward SA’s managing director, Andy Du Plessis. This was the most successful Hunger Month campaign in its 6-year history.

At the onset of the campaign Food Lover’s Market approached key partners – with the goal to collectively raise one million meals through the purchase of selected products. Shoppers were also encouraged to participate by donating at various Food Lover’s Market till points nationally during the month of May – each meal costing a mere R0,68 cents. On World Hunger Day, 28 May 2022, Food Lover’s Market matched all meals bought by shoppers.

The 2,5 million meals collected comprised of 1, 948,011 meals donated by Food Lover’s Market and its’ fresh and grocery supplier partners, and 567,192 meals donated by shoppers at Food Lover’s Market till points nationwide.
