Our KZN Flood Relief Efforts Intensify

For at least the next few months thousands of displaced people in KZN will need our support, following the devastating floods that saw people’s homes washed away, infrastructure destroyed, and businesses close. Thanks to the generosity of caring donors and partners, FoodForward SA was able to respond immediately. Our relief efforts are now intensifying, so that we can reach more of the nearly 50 community halls housing displaced people.

Just over a month ago, the torrential rains in KwaZulu-Natal saw nearly 500 people lose their lives, more than 14,000 homes destroyed by the raging floods, and billions of Rands in damage to infrastructure. FoodForward SA has ramped up support for families affected by the floods in Ntuzuma, Phoenix, Umlazi, Inanda, Tongaat, Canelands, and Pinetown. We are now reaching 30 community halls that are providing shelter for displaced families. We are providing water, snacks, hygiene products, and nutritious cooked meals every day to nearly 3,000 people.

We would like to specially thank Massmart, Tiger Brands, Pick n Pay, Feed the Nation Foundation, Food Lovers Market, Pepsico, Lactalis SA, RCL Foods, The Do More Foundation, Kelloggs, Coca Cola Peninsula Beverages, Montagu Foods, Tin Stuf, Standard Bank, HelloChoice, Premier FMCG, FNB, Chep, Phillip Morris International, Fortress Reit, Coronation, Smollan, General Electric Foundation, Astron Energy, Industrial Development Corporation of SA, Bloomberg, SA Home loans, RSM SA, Hortgro and the Global Foodbanking Network, along with thousands of individuals for supporting our call to action in such a generous manner.
