Established in 2007, Summerhill House is a non-profit company whose motivation and vision is to provide homes and personal transformation for orphaned and abandoned children, especially those whose lives have been impacted by HIV/AIDS. The children are fostered through to adulthood and provided with everything they need (including education), to thrive.
Apart from the children’s home, Summerhill House does important social upliftment work in the Etete community, working with 120-180 children who receive life skills, reading, homework and sports programmes. Providing the children with nutritious meals, as well as food parcels for needy including child-headed households, is a critical component of their holistic approach.
Says, Summerhill House’s Community Manager, Tshidi Dludlu: “The FoodForward partnership benefits us hugely in terms of our foster homes and feeding our children as well as food for our community families who end up at our doorstep as a result of poverty.”
