Woolworths renews partnership with FoodForward SA

The Woolworths-FoodForward SA partnership dates back to 2018 and is distinctive in that the funding from Woolworths serves as a key enabler of FoodForward SA’s strategy. Three years ago, FoodForward SA and Woolworths signed an agreement which has seen FFSA receive R1 million per year from the retailer.  In June 2021, aligned to Woolworths intent to make a long-term difference, the agreement was renewed for another three years.

The partnership with FoodForward SA helps the Woolworths Trust to realise it mission, which is to make a meaningful impact in local communities by supporting programmes that improve food security, and uplift education. In line with the Woolworths Trust’s requirements, FFSA submits a quarterly report on activities and measurable impact for review by the Board of Trustees.

Says Zinzi Mgolodela, Director Corporate Affairs: “Supporting programmes that address food security has been a key part of our strategy to make a meaningful difference in South African communities. We are satisfied that our funding to FoodForward SA is making a tangible difference, especially addressing the critical area of rural food insecurity, through the mobile rural depots, as well as providing meaningful employment opportunities to previously unemployed youth, through the supply chain youth internship programme.” Over the festive period in 2019, FoodForward SA was one of the beneficiaries of Woolworths #zerohunger Future campaign, an initiative of Woolworths and MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet.
