Do you have 67 minutes to change someone’s life?
Mandela Day, celebrated on 18 July, is a global call to action that celebrates each individual’s potential for transforming the world. Nelson Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years, so the idea behind the 67 minutes call to action stems from giving one minute for every year of Tata Madiba’s public service.
Due to the rising number of infections caused by the Covid-19 third wave, we are unable to hold our very successful Mandela Day nation-wide food drive and packing events in partnership with Pick n Pay.
We therefore call on individuals and corporate teams to honour the spirit and life of Tata Madiba, by joining organisations around the world in taking action against poverty.
Vulnerable communities need our help to access food. Starting on 1 July, we are inviting you to embody the spirit of Mandela Day and help us fill the gap by hosting a food drive among your family, friends, colleagues or neighbourhood. It won’t take you longer than 67 minutes to organise.
Working with over 1,000 beneficiary organisations we find that the following non-perishable food items are always in demand:
- Rice, Maize Meal, Spaghetti, Samp and Beans,
- Soup Mix, Lentils, Pilchards, Tuna,
- Long Life Milk, Oats, Jam, Peanut Butter,
- Cooking Oil, Salt and Sugar.
