FoodForward SA’s longstanding partnership with Food Lover’s Market underscores the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 17 which encourages the establishment of partnerships that focus on reaching its other 16 goals.
FoodForward SA’s relationship with Food Lover’s Market stems back several years and advanced in 2017 with the launch of the first Hunger Month Campaign. Held in May every year, the in-store Hunger Month campaign is an extension of World Hunger Day on 28 May and is Food Lover’s Market’s flagship CSI project.
FoodForward SA has been the beneficiary charity of this campaign since its inception. In 2020, despite the challenges in the retail sector arising due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the campaign reached its goal and provided 1,030,888 meals to those in need.
Apart from the annual Hunger Month campaign, Food Lover’s Market donates fresh produce on a weekly basis to our Cape Town and Johannesburg branches. These donations provide a tremendous boost to our Second Harvest programme and ensure that the nutritious content of the food we provide our beneficiary organisations remain above 80%. During the previous financial year, Food Lover’s Market donated nearly 100 tons of food to FoodForward SA.
