When FoodForward SA MD, Andy Du Plessis, put out FoodForward SA’s R50 million COVID-19 food security appeal in late March 2020, Tetra Pak was one of the first companies to respond.
They saw an opportunity to direct their COVID-19 support to a non-profit organisation whose activities aligned with their goals. Tetra Pak is a global company which focusses on addressing global challenges of sustainability, waste reduction (including food waste), food security and nutrition.
In April 2020, Tetra Pak donated R754,800 to FoodForward SA, amounting to 900,000 meals to vulnerable beneficiaries. “Ensuring availability of healthy food that is safe has become a high concern for global communities now more than ever amidst the pandemic; and for us at Tetra Pak, our approach to sustainability encompasses the entire value chain, including the environmental, social and economic challenges our society faces”, says Tetra Pak Southern Africa Marketing Director, Nthabiseng Motsoeneng
