Growing a Culture of Giving: St Cyprian’s Inter-schools Community Drive

It warms our hearts when young people contribute to our efforts. It inspires hope and reminds us of how important it is to cultivate a sense of community and giving among our future leaders.

During times when schools can’t get together to compete and show off their sporting skills and intellect, two young ladies decided to get the schools in their community to collaborate. Malaika Ngwenya (head girl) and Kayla Borain from St Cyprians High School in Oranjezicht are two inspiring young ladies. They, with the help of Mr Phillips and Mr Barclay, organised an inter-schools community drive to support Food Forward SA,  Service Dining, Good Hope Seminary High School and Harry Gwala High School.

To celebrate Spirit Week at St Cyprian’s School, Kayla and Malaika hosted an interschools community drive that collected staple foods and sanitary pads for their beneficiary organisations. They challenged learners from Herschel Girls, Springfield, Rondebosch Boys, SACS and Bishops Diocesan College to join them.

“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of all the donors and are grateful to the deserving beneficiaries who are working so hard towards making people’s lives better,” says Kayla.  Kayla’s main aim with this initiative was to give back. “FoodForward SA was one of the beneficiaries chosen, as through their network they reach a larger number of organisations.”

What a beautiful gesture that helps build a culture of giving! If you too want to host a food drive to support our efforts, visit our website.
