FoodForward SA Launches Second Mobile Rural Depot in KZN

Thanks to continued donor support, FoodForward SA was able to launch its second Mobile Rural Depot in Kwa-Zulu Natal. This MRD will serve just over 1,000 vulnerable beneficiaries from communities in Kokstad, Margate, Port Shepstone and Harding located in the south of the province.

FFSA’s MRD programme was launched in June 2019 to address food insecurity in rural communities. We now have 10 MRDs serving rural communities. They are located in KZN South, Mahikeng, Pietermaritzburg, East London, Worcester, Greyton, Beaufort West, Oudtshoorn, George and Malmesbury. To date, our rural food security programme serves a total of 95 beneficiary organisations which collectively feed nearly 50,000 vulnerable people daily.

The newest addition will serve, among others, a facility for orphans and vulnerable children, a drug rehabilitation centre, a shelter and a skills development centre.
