FoodForward SA wins Platinum at Community Chest Impumelelo Social Innovation Awards

FoodForward SA was proud to receive a Platinum Award at the 2018 Community Chest Impumelelo Social Innovation awards ceremony at the Artscape Opera House on Wednesday, 28 November.

FoodForward SA was one of only 3 organisations to win a Platinum award, each of which includes a R50,000 cash prize.

“We applaud the excellent work these deserving organisations have been doing in their community, in line with Community Chest’s four core values: facilitating social change within health, education, income-generation, and community development,” said Lorenzo Davids, CEO of the Community Chest of the Western Cape.

The awards reward organisations who offer innovative and effective solutions to public problems and showcase excellence in their fields.  Twenty-eight organisations were shortlisted by an independent panel, then audited by an independent representative, before being invited to present their work to the National Selection Committee.  Submissions were assessed against the following selection criteria:

  • Social Innovation
  • Poverty impact
  • Project effectiveness
  • Transparent and accountable financial management
  • Sustainability
  • Replication

Accepting the award on behalf of FoodForward SA were Managing Director Andy Du Plessis and Board Chairman Crispin Sonn.  Said Du Plessis “It is a real honour to receive this award on behalf of all our incredible staff that serve our nation’s vulnerable people.  We would like to sincerely thank the Community Chest and Impumelelo for recognising the work that we are doing to help end hunger in South Africa, and want to congratulate our fellow awardees, all of whom are making an impact in their respective fields.  We encourage all eligible NGOs to register as FoodForward SA Beneficiary Organisations so that we can work together to deliver an even greater impact in areas of critical need across South Africa.”
