As part of an ongoing commitment to enterprise and community development, Street Food Festival ZA launched SFF Loves, an initiative aimed at empowering individuals and communities through a shared love of food.
The Street Food Festival ZA is produced and owned by Studio H, a multi-disciplinary, culinary-minded design studio based in Cape Town. To mark the inaugural year of the initiative SFF Loves is partnering with FoodForward SA to help raise funds in support of FoodForward SA’s surplus food recovery programme.
SFF Loves launched an online and physical pop-up shop at the V&A Waterfront where virtual versions of South African street food favourites like the gatsby, bunny chow, and vetkoek were sold in August. The pop-up shop, which features a display of the street food meals crafted in felt, will travel to both Cape Town and Johannesburg in September. All the proceeds from the sales will help FoodForward SA in recovering quality edible surplus food to address widespread hunger and reduce edible surplus food ending up in landfills across South Africa.
More than 14 million South Africans go hungry every day. FoodForward SA collects edible surplus food from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, for redistribution to hundreds of verified NPOs that collectively feed thousands of vulnerable people daily. With the support of the Street Food Festival, FoodForward SA can continue with this important drive.
