Thank you to Old Mutual and its employees for their continued support year after year, which has helped to fund our Beneficiary Organisation sponsorship programme.
In 2017, through the Old Mutual Staff Volunteer Fund Trust, Old Mutual staff donated R1 million in support of organisations partnering with FoodForward SA to address hunger in South Africa, bringing their total commitment to hunger relief through FoodForward SA to R2 million.
Through FoodForward SA, the Trust focuses on supporting the elderly and abused women and children. Since its inception in 2001, the Trust has raised more than R16 million and is committed to assisting those in need, particularly the most vulnerable people within our communities.
One of the organisations benefitting from the generosity of the Old Mutual staff is Ark of Love Old Age Home, located in Vosloorus, Gauteng. The organisation provides geriatric care; in-home services; transport facilities; recreational activities; meal programs and other services geared towards senior citizens. The organisation was founded in 2003 after Goodwill and his wife Thobeka noticed that the elderly members of their church were hungry and didn’t have the means to provide for themselves. To address this need they set up a soup kitchen to provide two meals a week to the elderly but soon realised that the need was for more than just warm, nutritious meals and that their beneficiaries needed a safe and caring place to live. With the support of the community the Ark of Love was established and now over 40 elderly members of the community rely on them for care and three meals a day.
With the support of the Old Mutual Staff Volunteer Fund Trust, FoodForward SA is able to make regular donations of food and grocery items to Ark of Love, so that they can continue providing their beneficiaries with the food and care they deserve.
Thank you Old Mutual for joining us in the fight against hunger.
