Little People’s Den and Siyaphambili Community Projects Feeding Scheme are the latest recipients to benefit from FoodForward SA’s growing list of supporters.
Food security is a growing global concern and it’s particularly problematic amongst underprivileged communities. FoodForward SA has dedicated its cause to providing nourishment for the less fortunate, and thanks to generous sponsors like Nuberry Fruits, fewer children in the Western Cape are going hungry every day.
“In October 2016, we approached Nuberry Fruits to consider sponsoring two of our beneficiary organisations. The company graciously agreed to assist and they’ve made it possible for us to provide regular support to the organisations in need,” Kate Hamilton, Fund Development Manager.
Little People’s Den
Based in Milnerton, Cape Town, Little People’s Den is an Early Childhood Development Centre that supports children from its surrounding areas. These children come from disadvantaged families unable to pay pre-school fees. Without Little People’s Den, the children would not be attending school, putting their early development at risk.
The school currently accommodates for 38 young learners on a daily basis, providing both education and nourishment. It’s the nourishment side of the equation that’s been troubling the school the most, as food prices continue to rise above inflation.
The costs saved on their grocery bill due to support from FoodForward SA allows the principal to take the children on an educational outing every month. They visit places like the aquarium or seal island, and these outings further enrich their classroom lessons about topics such as transportation and marine life.
Siyaphambili Community Projects Feeding Scheme
Another FoodForward SA beneficiary organisation that’s receiving support thanks to Nuberry Fruits is the Siyaphambili Community Projects Feeding Scheme. Based in Khayelitsha, the organisation provides daily nourishment to less fortunate South Africans who can’t afford to feed themselves.
Currently, the project’s founders cater for 140 people. This requires a steady flow of basic foods to ensure that sustainable nutrition is achieved.
The partnership with FoodForward SA ensures that the organisation is able to provide their recipients with filling meals every day.
Nuberry Fruits donations save these organisations money on grocery bills, enabling them to redirect funds to improving infrastructure and servicing more needy community members. FoodForward SA would like to thank Nuberry Fruits for its support in feeding the hungry and empowering less fortunate South Africans.
