Glencore provides meals in Rustenburg in partnership with Foodbank SA

Glencore’s Rustenburg Smelter has generously donated R 764 000 to FoodBank SA. Glencore is one of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies and a major producer and marketer of commodities. The money will be used to fully fund our Rustenburg branch, which currently distributes food to 29 beneficiary organisations, who provide vital meals to 2 833 people. The kinds of organisations benefitting from this partnership include early childhood development centres, orphanages and homes for the aged to name a few. One of the organisations that will be benefitting from this donation is MTS Ancillary Health Care Services.

MTS Ancillary Health Care Services is an NPO located in Tlhabane, Rustenburg in the North West province of South Africa. A place of peace and tranquility, the organisation cares for 30 senior citizens including the mentally disabled.

The organisation was established in 2006 by Nurse Martha Tlhowe and some community members who shared a concern for the lack of care that the elderly were receiving from family members.

Despite how challenging caring for senior citizens and the mentally disabled can be, staff at MTS Ancillary are passionate about giving them the best care, which they deserve.

After hearing about FoodBank SA at a local community social development meeting, the organisation immediately contacted FoodBank SA to appeal for assistance. MTS Ancillary has since been receiving good quality, nutritious food from FoodBank SA for the last five years.

Thanks to FoodBank SA, the residents who are prone to experiencing health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and diabetes are on a healthy diet.

“The FoodBank SA donations are a huge help with keeping them healthy and their tummies filled and we’re extremely grateful”, said MTS Ancillary Assistant Manager, Tshenolo Mannafela.

MTS Ancillary has been saving R4000 on their grocery bill every month, which allows them to buy other necessities such as adult diapers, cleaning materials and toiletries.
