World Hunger Day Fast a Success!

On 27 May, FoodBank SA held their annual World Hunger Day Fast to inspire people to show their solidarity and support for the women, men and children experiencing hunger on a daily basis.

People were asked to join the Fast by donating R35 to FoodBank SA, which enables them to feed a person for an entire month, and to refrain from eating for eight hours.

Not only did the fast help to raise awareness around the 13.8 million South Africans that go hungry every day, it also helped raise R17,504 which will help facilitate the provision of 16,207 meals for the less fortunate, with more donations coming in daily.

“Such campaigns enable our organisation to be of some assistance to orphaned children, abused women, the aged and disabled and people suffering from HIV /Aids who can’t afford proper nutrition”, said FoodBank SA Managing Director, Andy Du Plessis.

Despite the current economic conditions resulting in rising food costs, FoodBank SA is able to deliver on our mission to reduce hunger in South Africa. This is all thanks to the ongoing support of our donors. Thank you to all who took part in the FoodBank SA Fast.

We also wish to thank award winning advertising agency, J. Walter Thompson South Africa for assisting FoodBank SA with marketing activities for the Fast campaign on a pro bono basis and thereby helping to make the campaign a success.
