The Shoprite Group recently launched its #ActForChange Fund, which allow customers to add R5 or more to their purchases at till-points across all Shoprite and Checkers stores nationally, to support the fight against hunger in South Africa. Starting on the 3rd of May and ending at the beginning of July all proceeds will be donated to FoodBank SA.
The #ActForChange Fund was launched in March this year, in response to feedback from their customers that they wanted to get involved in drought-relief efforts at a local / community level. The Fund allows customers to simply add R5 or more when purchasing their groceries. During March and April, the #ActForChange Fund raised over R200,000 from customer donations which have now been channeled into national drought-relief efforts in conjunction with The Gift of the Givers Foundation and Agri SA.
For Winter, the funds will be directed towards Hunger Relief efforts in communities that need it most. Hunger Relief is one of the core pillars of Shoprite’s CSI strategy, and as such, The Shoprite Group wanted to align all of their community support to assisting impoverished communities. With the in-store donations, Shoprite and Checkers wanted to channel the proceeds to a cause that would reach communities in need and that would make a real difference in the lives of people living without the security of regular meals.
