FoodBank SA is challenging you and your family this Family Day, to make a difference in the lives of those living without food in South Africa.
Family Day is a South African celebrated holiday, a day for families to come together to share a meal, or just enjoy some quality time together. FoodBank SA is calling on you and your family to step up and make a difference this Family Day by collecting non-perishable food items and donating them to FoodBank SA’s fight against hunger in South Africa. The national food drive will run from 28 March to 1 April, which is the perfect time for you and your loved ones to make a difference.
How to get involved
You can hold a food drive at your home or office and ask your colleagues, family and friends to join in.
To make sure that your Food Drive is a success FoodBank SA can provide you with the necessary information and material, such as posters and e-mail reminders for you to send out to friends and colleagues.
FoodBank SA will also collect all large food donations, smaller donations can be dropped at any of our warehouses in Cape Town, Durban, Rustenburg, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg.
Food items that go further
Food that has a longer shelf life (non-perishables) make for great donations because they keep for longer.
Here are some suggestions for food donations:
- Rice, maize meal, samp and pasta
- Dried beans, lentils, tinned fish, soya mince, milk powder and peanut butter
- Canned fruit and canned mix vegetables
- Cooking oil, salt and sugar
For the safety of those we re-distribute to, FoodBank SA is unable to accept:
- Open packages
- Homemade food items
- Items that have expired
