Mandela Day is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It’s a global movement to make the world better.
This Mandela Day 14 companies spent their 67 minutes with FoodBank SA to pack thousands of meals and food hampers for those in need.
Volunteers were grouped into teams and given instructions on sorting food, defacing products and weighing hampers. Hampers included staples such as maize, rice, milk, vegetables, and sugar, as well as a Wonderbag proudly sponsored by the Wonderbag Company. In Cape Town we launched our meal packing where volunteers took part in packaging our new meal that FoodBank SA will be supplying to our beneficiary organisations.
We were excited to have two of our patrons to join us for the day, Siba Mtongana, from Siba’s Table on the Food Network channel UK www.foodnetwork.co.uk and Ishay Govender, from Food and the Fabulous www.foodandthefabulous.com. Both patrons joined in on the fun, took selfies with participants, signed autographs, networked and shared why they support FoodBank SA. The spirit of Ubuntu was felt in all of our warehouses.
Foodbank SA would like to thank everyone who made this day possible — your dedication to Mandela’s legacy was proven. We value your assistance and association and invite you and many more to join us next year for an even bigger event.
